76ers ditched 1st-round guard, who is now leaving NBA for contract in Europe

The Philadelphia 76ers liked what they saw from Lonnie Walker when he was playing in Lithuania last year.

Philly appreciated the former first-round guard’s play so much that in February, they signed Walker to a two-year contract.

But by June, the 76ers were declining their team option on Walker’s deal, quickly turning him back into a free agent.

Now, it sounds like Walker could be heading right back overseas.

Basketball Sphere reports that Hapoel Tel Aviv, in Israel, has offered Walker a two-year contract and is “confident the deal will be finalized soon.”

The Spurs took Walker 18th overall in 2018 out of Miami.

The Reading, Pennsylvania native averaged 12.4 points and 2.5 assists per game in his 20 games in 2025 after signing with the 76ers.

He’s a career double-figure scorer in the NBA between the Spurs, Lakers, Nets and 76ers.

Walker is a great get for any international team, an absolute bucket. It’s just surprising he hasn’t been able to stick around the NBA, and it sounds like he’ll be leaving again.
