The San Francisco 49ers roster will look completely different when they take the field in 2025. The 49ers have to pay Brock Purdy in the near future and have had to move some of their top players because of that.
More moves could be coming in the foreseeable future, most notably the potential trade of Brandon Aiyuk.
Aiyuk is a very good player but is coming off a rough injury he suffered at the end of October.
Prior to that injury, the 27-year-old wasn’t having his best season, posting just 374 yards and 25 receptions in seven games.
Aiyuk was also dropping passes at an alarming rate and didn’t look like the same player he once was before the massive extension he signed during that offseason.
With his contract being a potential issue, Marissa Myers of TWSN proposed a deal that would help the 49ers get off his deal.
The trade would send him to the Los Angeles Chargers to pair with Justin Herbert.
“The 49ers just signed Aiyuk to an extension last season, which looks to be something the team is already regretting. This part makes a potential trade a bit difficult, as the 49ers would have to find a team that is willing to take on Aiyuk’s four-year, $120 million deal, which includes $24.8 million guaranteed for 2025… Aiyuk is going to be coming off a torn ACL, but when he is fully healthy, he is a true threat. Aiyuk is able to be a downfield threat and create yards after the catch as well, which is exactly what the Chargers need,” Myers wrote.
Herbert and Aiyuk could sneakily be one of the better duos in the NFL if the Nevada native is healthy and is the same player he was in the first four seasons of his NFL career.
For the 49ers, however, their wide receiver room would be even more questionable than it already is.
