The San Francisco 49ers will be without a quarterback early in training camp.
Kurtis Rourke is opening camp on the non-football injury list.
The seventh-round rookie from Indiana is working his way back from an ACL tear in his right knee. It’s his second such injury.
Rourke played 2024 with the injury for the Hoosiers, leading them to a magical season.
“(Rourke) underwent surgery only when it was detected during pre-draft medical checks,” Pro Football Talk writes. “He could miss the entire season as he rehabs.”
It’s really a bummer for Rourke as much as anyone.
The 49ers are set with Mac Jones to back up Brock Purdy.

It just would’ve been a great learning season for Rourke. He’ll just have to devote himself to the meeting room while not being able to actually do things on the practice field.
Rourke played five college seasons at Ohio before finishing up at Indiana and proving he could be a high-level quarterback even against strong competition.
For the Hoosiers, Rourke threw 29 touchdowns with just five interceptions while completing 69.4% of his passes.
Eventually, he’ll get a chance to try and earn an NFL backup spot.
