49ers get major news on potential Brock Purdy holdout

The San Francisco 49ers have dealt with multiple players holding out until they get a long-term contract over the past few years.

Perhaps the most important player on their roster, the 49ers could face a similar situation with quarterback Brock Purdy.

Purdy wants to be paid, but the 49ers have all the control. If they want to franchise tag him for the next few years, they’ll have a chance to do so.

There are many benefits from doing so from the 49ers’ perspective, and not many from Purdy’s.

If Purdy is frustrated about his contract situation heading into camp, which the 49ers don’t have to extend or tag him before, it could get ugly.

49ers decision makers understand that, too, with Kyle Shanahan speaking about the possibility of that.

“I know Brock doesn’t want to do that. We don’t want to do that. I mean, no one wants to do that,” Shanahan said at the NFL annual meeting in Palm Beach. “But these are negotiations that go on between agents and our organization, and it’s over a lot of money and stuff.

“Those aren’t just things that you just knock out right away. But I believe that we will. I hope that we do, and hopefully, it won’t come in any football stuff.”

There have been many indications that suggest Purdy will be paid soon. Whether that comes now or in the summer, the 49ers should get a deal done.

If not, Purdy could grow frustrated and make this a tough situation for all involved.
