49ers cut ties with All-Pro veteran after injury

The San Francisco 49ers have moved on from a veteran before the start of training camp.

They have released George Odum, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Odum has spent the past three seasons with the 49ers. Before that, he had played four seasons for the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Central Arkansas.

The safety appeared in 40 games for the 49ers. He had 14 defensive tackles, five passes defensed and one interception.

Odum made most of his mark on special teams, where he had 36 tackles for the ‘Niners. He earned first-team All-Pro honors after the 2020 season in Indy, and he was second-team All-Pro after 2022 with San Francisco.

The 31-year old was placed on the non-football injury list earlier this week.

It’s not clear what exactly happened with Odum, but he won’t be with the 49ers as they open training camp.
