Christian McCaffrey’s injury status is the single biggest story in fantasy football for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.
Is he playing for the San Francisco 49ers against the Seattle Seahawks? Well, the latest news is positive.
On Sunday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had this to say:
“They hope and believe it is not gonna be a repeat of last year. McCaffrey suffered a little bit of a calf pull Thursday during practice, did not practice at all on Friday, but he was a big participant in the walkthrough on Saturday, and right now McCaffrey is trending toward playing for the 49ers.”

It seems highly unlikely CMC would’ve been a major walkthrough participant if he wasn’t going to play on Sunday.
And a bit later Sunday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that McCaffrey will indeed play in Week 1.
Two seasons ago, McCaffrey was the best running back in football. He led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards, scored 14 touchdowns, and also caught 67 passes for 564 yards and seven more TDs.
But last season, McCaffrey only got on the field for four games as he battled two separate injuries. He carried 50 times for 202 yards (4.0 ypc) and had 15 catches for 146 yards.
The 49ers need McCaffrey to help them bounce back from a 6-11 season.
The stakes are high right away with a divisional clash, too.
But at least right now, the news seems good for CMC.
