It’s a great time to be a lifelong fan of Iowa State athletics.
Two former Cyclones, Brock Purdy and Tyrese Haliburton, are dominating national sports headlines.
Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers are in the Eastern Conference Finals after dominating the 1-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers. They’re eight wins away from an NBA title and have a high-profile fan cheering them on.
That fan would be Purdy, who took classes with Purdy at Iowa State over five years ago.
The 49ers’ quarterback just recently signed a 5-year, $265 million extension and Haliburton shared his thoughts on social media.

The Pacers’ point guard has shown support for Purdy for years and vice versa.
Haliburton, who has been spotted wearing Purdy’s jersey on gamedays, says he has been rooting for the QB going back to his days as the final pick in the 2022 draft.
“I’ve been pushing the Brock Purdy agenda since we were 18,” he told The Athletic back in 2023. “So it’s not going to stop anytime soon.”
Purdy has showed support as well telling The Athletic that he’s always seen stardom in the way Haliburton plays.
“To see him go off like he is now, we saw that at Iowa State,” Purdy said.
As Haliburton takes the floor for one of the biggest moments of his life, there’s a good chance Purdy will be watching closely and cheering on his former classmate.
When the NFL season begins, we can be sure that the Indiana star will return the favor.
