Where did this come from?
Brock Purdy apparently came out of the San Francisco 49ers’ Week 1 victory over the Seattle Seahawks with multiple injuries. His status for Week 2 is in doubt.
This is what ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday evening:
“Brock Purdy has a left shoulder and toe injury that make him uncertain for Sunday’s game in New Orleans. Kyle Shanahan said the team will see how the practice week goes.”

Schefter’s wording is funny, because it makes it sound like it’s one big injury, a left-shoulder-and-toe injury.
But wording aside, this isn’t funny at all for the 49ers.
Purdy’s backup QB is Mac Jones, which is a decent outcome all things considered. He can win games as a starting quarterback.
But the injury nightmare has started early for the 49ers.

George Kittle is hurt. Jauan Jennings is hurt. And Purdy, too?
He wasn’t perfect in the opener, but he was out there the whole game to help hold onto a win.
To be fair, the 49ers might not need Purdy to beat this season’s lowly Saints team.
But they just paid Brock a ton of money. Ideally, he’d be on the field leading the way and trying to avoid a repeat of last season’s injury-plagued 6-11 season.
