The New England Patriots’ roster has taken a big step forward following two straight 4-13 seasons.
Though last season was a disaster for New England in terms of winning games, the team found a franchise quarterback in Drake Maye. Despite a below-average receiving group, Maye had moments where he shone, and the Patriots have made many new additions to improve the roster this offseason, including signing star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
With Diggs, the Patriots have a true No. 1 wide receiver on their roster, even though the four-time Pro Bowler may not be ready at the beginning of the season after tearing his ACL in Week 8 last season. New England lacked a star receiver in 2024, but did have solid contributors, like Kayshon Boutte.
Boutte, 23, was a second-year receiver out of Louisiana State University for New England who played a big role in the offense. Boutte opened up about the rumors about him being traded, with all the new additions the Patriots made this offseason, as shared by MassLive’s Mark Daniels.
“I heard about it, but I tried not to really put too much time into that,” Boutte said. “You know, there’s just a lot of people just sitting behind phones and just typing. It’s got nothing to really do with me.”

“We’ve got a lot of guys. There’s 12 of us. At the end of the day, there will probably be six of us if we be honest. Every day is another opportunity to get better and be great. We all know we’re in competition, but it’s up to us at the end of the day.”
Boutte was one of the Patriots’ best offensive weapons last season, catching 43 passes for 589 receiving yards and a team-high three receiving touchdowns. The 23-year-old receiver was a deep threat for Maye last season, and despite the new additions to the team, remains optimistic about competing for a spot.
