The Cannes Film Festival has been around for decades, but in recent years, a new trend has taken over the red carpet.
Many celebrities have arrived at the prestigious event wearing see-through dresses that grabbed fans’ attention. However, this year’s festival looks a little different, as that trend is officially banned.
Just 24 hours ahead of the event, the organizers’ website revealed a new list of guidelines for stars to follow.
“Nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as any other area of the festival,” the updated dress code states. This change has been made for “decency reasons” — meaning we won’t be seeing any ‘naked’ dresses on the carpet this year.
That’s not the only major change. The updated guidelines also include a ban on “voluminous” outfits with large trains.
So, what’s behind this switch-up? It seems the organizers may want to shift the spotlight back to the films being presented, rather than the fashion headlines.
Still, fashion always finds a way back into the conversation — especially when some of the attendees on the red carpet have ties to some of the most famous athletes.
Georgina Rodríguez, longtime partner of Cristiano Ronaldo, had fans buzzing at the 2021 festival with a mesh-like gown. Winnie Harlow, now engaged to Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma, also turned heads on the Cannes carpet in a sheer look in 2019.
While fans may miss some of the more shocking style moments, let’s take a look back at some of the most viral dresses that won’t be making an appearance on the carpet in 2025.
