Yankees trade rumors tracker: Latest updates on Mitch Keller, MacKenzie Gore ahead of MLB deadline

Ahead of the MLB trade deadline on Thursday, perhaps no team is under the spotlight more than the Yankees.

After taking a big early division lead in the AL East, New York has fallen behind the Blue Jays and holds one of the AL’s wild-card spots. The Yankees’ poor play over the past month has highlighted their weaknesses, primarily on the pitching side.

What also may impact the Yankees’ plans is the injury to Aaron Judge, as the reigning AL MVP is currently on the injured list with an elbow issue. Judge is, of course, a crucial part of the team, and any extended absence significantly hurts the Yankees’ chances to win moving forward.

New York got a head start on their deadline, trading for Ryan McMahon from the Rockies and Amed Rosario from the Nationals to beef up its offense and defense. Still, there is plenty for New York to do before the deadline expires.

The Giants are trading Camilo Doval to the Yankees, per Passan. Doval has been one of San Fransisco’s best relievers, owning a 3.09 ERA and 15 saves in 47 games this season.

In return, the Yankees sent catcher Jesus Rodriguez, 3B Parks Harbor, RHP Trystan Vrieling and LHP Carlos De La Rosa, per Curry.

Yankees, Rays make mid-game trade involving Jose Caballero

The Yankees and Rays are currently playing against one another, but that didn’t stop them from making a deadline trade. Rays infielder Jose Caballero will be pulled from the game to be heading to the opposing dugout, per Curry, in exchange for OF Everson Pereira and a player to be named later.

Jose Caballero is tied for the MLB lead in stolen bases with 34.

Yankees send INF Oswald Peraza to Angels

New York has traded infielder Oswald Peraza to the Angels, per Curry. Peraza is hitting .152 with three home runs and 13 RBIs this season. In exchange, the Yankees are receiving OF Wilberson De Pena and international money from Los Angeles, per Joel Sherman.

Yankees still talking to teams about a starter as deadline approaches

New York is still talking to teams about adding a starter with the deadline just over an hour away, per Heyman.

Yankees acquire reliever Jake Bird from Rockies

The Yankees have traded for reliever Jake Bird from Colorado, per Curry. Bird has a 4.73 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 53.1 innings this season.

According to Ken Rosenthal, New York is sending 2B Roc Riggio and LHP Ben Shields back to the Rockies. MLB.com ranks Riggio as the Yankees’ No. 10 prospect, while Shields is ranked as their No. 28 prospect.

Yankees have asked Marlins for Sandy Alcantara, Anthony Bender package

Hoch reports that the Yankees have asked Miami about a package of both starter Sandy Alcantara and reliever Anthony Bender. While Alcantara has been connected to New York, Bender would also be a strong bullpen addition, as he has a 1.83 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 44.1 innings this season.

Pirates finalizing trade sending David Bednar to Yankees

The Yankees are close to acquiring Pirates closer David Bednar, per Passan. Bednar, a right-hander, has a 2.37 ERA this season with 17 saves. He’ll help fortify the back of New York’s bullpen.

Per Jon Heyman, the Yankees are sending Rafael Flores and two more prospects in the deal. Flores, a catcher and first baseman, was New York’s No. 8 prospect, per MLB.com. Catcher/DH Edgleen Perez, the team’s No. 14 prospect, is also part of the package heading to Pittsburgh, as is outfielder Brian Sanchez.

Yankees discussing David Bednar trade with Pirates

The Yankees are known to be pursuing late-inning relievers, and Rosenthal reports that they are discussing a David Bednar trade with the Pirates. New York has also been considered the “front-runner” for Bednar, who has a 2.37 ERA and 51 punchouts in 38 innings this season.

Spencer Jones would only be traded for Paul Skenes, who is not available

Spencer Jones, the Yankees’ top outfield prospect, has drawn interest from teams with top big-league pieces, but New York has insisted it would only trade Jones for one player: Paul Skenes, who is not available from Pittsburgh and is not “going anywhere,” per Heyman.

Yankees have discussed Sandy Alcantara, Edward Cabrera with Marlins

Morosi reports that the Yankees have had “dialogue” with Miami about its two star starters: Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera.  The Marlins have reportedly been asking for star prospect Spencer Jones in those discussions.

While Alcantara, a former Cy Young award winner, has had a rocky 2025 season, Cabrera would also cause a hefty price between his years of club control plus a 3.35 ERA and 96 strikeouts across 18 starts this season.

Yankees mentioned as potential landing spot for Robert Suarez

With the Padres acquiring Mason Miller and J.P. Sears from the A’s, they’re now likely to move on from reliever Robert Suarez. Olney listed the Yankees as one of the teams that could show interest in Suarez.

Yankees monitoring Pirates’, Twins’ late-inning reliever options

Heyman reports that the Yankees are among the teams interested in Pirates reliever David Bednar, while the Twins’ Griffin Jax is considered another option for the team as well. Bullpen help is considered the Yankees “top priority” for the deadline.

Yankees acquire OF Austin Slater from White Sox

New York got another right-handed bat on Wednesday, trading for outfielder Austin Slater from the White Sox.

Slater has hit .236 with five home runs and 11 RBIs this season. However, his .859 OPS against left-handed pitchers is the main appeal of the Yankees’ acquisition.

Per Jon Heyman, the Yankees are sending back RHP prospect Gage Ziehl in exchange for Slater.

Yankees interested in Harrison Bader, Austin Slater

As the Yankees reportedly look for a right-handed bat, Bader and Slater are two possible names who could be traded that make sense. Still, Olney adds that New York will also be focused on acquiring bullpen help in the next few days.

Braves acquiring Carlos Carrasco from Yankees

Carrasco appeared in eight games for the Yankees in April but has spent most of the season in the minor leagues. With Atlanta in need of pitching help, they get the veteran starter who is no longer in New York’s plans.

Pitching at the top of the Yankees’ priorities

To no surprise, the Yankees seem determined to improve their pitching, ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reports. Among the names Castillo mentions is Nationals’ All-Star MacKenzie Gore, who would require a “steep price” to acquire. Castillo also said that New York has shown interest in some Pirates pitchers, including Mitch Keller, David Bednar, Caleb Ferguson, and Dennis Santana.

Yankees could still add hitter after McMahon, Rosario deals

While the Yankees need pitching help, The New York Post‘s Joel Sherman reports they could still add another hitter. Sherman names Willi Castro, Taylor Walls, Jose Caballero, Ha-Seong Kim, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and David Hamilton as players whom the team may like to fill this role. Sherman also mentions the Yankees will add multiple relievers, which is expected considering the team’s bullpen struggles.

New York has shown interest in Rockies reliever Jake Bird

With the Yankees’ bullpen struggling, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports the team could try to trade for the Rockies’ Jake Bird. Bird has been the Rockies’ best reliever this year, and since Naw York and Colorado have already completed the Ryan McMahon deal, there is familiarity between the two sides this month.

Yankees explored selling expiring contracts in wake of Judge injury

With Judge injured and New York in second place in the AL East, SNY’s Andy Martino reported that the Yankees discussed potentially trading their impending free agents, such as Devin Williams, Trent Grisham, and Cody Bellinger. Martino added that it seems unlikely the team will do that, instead acting as a “soft buyer.”
