Yankees legend, Hall of Famer has 4-words to describe viral torpedo bats

The New York Yankees went viral in their first series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Their use of torpedo bats has led many players to try and replicate their success.

The Yankees hit 15 home runs in their opening series, and five players, Austin Wells, Paul Goldschmidt, Anthony Volpe, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Cody Bellinger, hit home runs using torpedo bats.  The bats, which feature a bigger barrel, have led to plenty of discussion. Yankees’ legend CC Sabathia weighed in on baseball’s latest trend.

“I think it’s great,” Sabathia told FOX News’ Scott Thompson.

Sabathia went on to discuss how the pitchers have continued to get better and are throwing harder, so it’s good that hitters are making some improvements. He noted how the bats are a good step in bringing some offense back. Major League Baseball made an effort to increase offense recently when they added bigger bases and limited pitcher disengagements in an attempt to increase stolen bases.

“If it all helps, I think for the longest time we’ve been trying to figure out how to get offense back in the game. Move the pitcher’s mound back, make the baseball bigger, all these different things to come back. You know how good pitching is. We get one good thing for hitters and then everybody freaked out. But everybody freaked out because it was the Yankees.”

Brewers pitcher Trevor Megill was one of the players who thought the torpedo bats were not good for baseball but thought the league would let it slide since it was the Yankees.

Sabathia was inducted into the Hall of Fame in January. He spent 11 seasons with the Yankees. He had a 3.81 ERA in 307 games with the team. He was a six-time All-Star in his career and won the American League Cy Young Award in 2007.
