Will Tank Davis vs Conor Benn boxing match happen? Offer made to Gervonta by Eddie Hearn, Matchroom

No sooner had Conor Benn been awarded a 12-round unanimous decision over Peter Dobson on Saturday than rumours of potential opponents for the Englishman’s next fight commenced. The most attractive of them all was pound-for-pound star Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

As is often the case, the war of words began on social media, with the American fighter critiquing Benn’s performance against Dobson. While there were no knockdowns in that bout, the British contender clearly won on points.

However, Davis was unimpressed. “No funny, the way you looked last night,” said Davis via Twitter (X). “Give me 3 weeks & a weekend in Turks and yo a** is grass. You hear me!’.”

Never one to take infringements lightly, it didn’t take long for Benn to respond with a verbal counterpunch: “Oh here he is the woman beating munchkin from Oz! Let’s do it next then?”

The 29-year-old Davis accepted the invitation and asked for some additional details: “Sure why not.. where would you like ya a** whooping at bruv?’.

Almost immediately, Benn, 27, instructed his promoter to reach out to his rival: “Eddie Hearn, drop the munchkin [Davis] a DM and get this fight made NEXT. I’m sure he’ll screenshot the conversation anyway so we will see who’s full of sh_t. See you soon.”

“I’ll be waiting Eddie Hearn,” was Davis’ short and sweet response.

Will we see “Tank” vs. “The Destroyer”? The Sporting News takes a look at the logistics:

Where would Conor Benn vs. Tank Davis take place?

Last week, The Ring’s Joe Santoliquito posted a story citing that “numerous sources” confirmed Davis’ next fight would take place in the U.K.

Now, it must be said that this was before the Baltimore star had the verbal spat with Benn. However, if true, Davis being willing to travel can’t hurt the chances of the fight taking place.

Davis made his first world title defence (IBF super featherweight) on U.K. soil when he knocked out Englishman Liam Walsh in 2017.

At what weight would Tank Davis vs. Conor Benn take place?

This is the tricky part. Davis is a lightweight, and even though he won a WBA regular title at super lightweight, he’s only fought there once.

Benn is a career welterweight who was willing to take on Chris Eubank Jr. at middleweight. He’s two-and-a-half inches taller than Davis at 5-8, although his reach is only half an inch longer at 68 inches.

But dimensions to one side, Benn is a much larger man than Davis and would have a significant physically, advantage in the ring if this fight is contested at welterweight.

It’s unlikely that Benn can get any lower.

Who promotes Gervonta Davis?

“Tank” fights under the PBC umbrella and fought on Showtime in the U.S. for many years.

However, with Showtime’s departure from boxing at the end of last year, the PBC set up a new deal with Amazon Prime.

As a result of this recent acquisition, many believe there is no chance that a fight between Davis and Benn can take place next. PBC has a preference for in-house fights and the chances of Al Haymon and Eddie Hearn coming together to make this a reality are remote.

Time will tell.
