When is Brighton vs. Chelsea? Date, time of 2024 Premier League game postponed due to FA Cup semifinals

Chelsea will return to Wembley Stadium in April for the semifinals of the 2023/24 FA Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have already played at England’s national stadium once in 2023/24, losing the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool in extra time thanks to a goal from Virgil van Dijk.

A trophy would do wonders for Pochettino, who has endured heavy criticism in his first season in the role, both from Chelsea fans and pundits. The lavish transfer spending under the ownership of Todd Boehly has yielded little tangible success for the London club, who were in 11th place in the table when the March international break began.

There is still a chance for Chelsea to qualify for Europe next season via a league position, but they will need to pick up a number of positive results to remain in contention. The game against Brighton & Hove Albion, who are also bidding for a European place, could have a significant say in the Blues’ bid to get back into continental football.

However, that game has had to be postponed due a scheduling clash. The Sporting News looks at why it was moved, and when it could take place.

When is Brighton vs. Chelsea? Date, time of Premier League game

Chelsea’s trip to England’s south coast to face Brighton & Hove Albion was slated for the weekend of April 20-21, but the potential clash with the FA Cup semifinals means the fixture has been postponed.

The Premier League has not yet announced a new date and time for the game.

Brighton are no longer involved in the UEFA Europa League, having been eliminated by Roma in the last round, while Chelsea did not qualify for Europe for this season. That should make the task of rearranging this game easier, although Chelsea’s postponed fixture against Arsenal must also have a new confirmed date announced soon.

One possibility could be to stage a postponed game in the midweek before the FA Cup semifinals, in the week beginning April 15. The following week (commencing April 22) is another option.

Why was Brighton vs. Chelsea postponed?

This game had to be moved after Chelsea reached the semifinals of the 2023/24 FA Cup.

The Blues battled past Championship promotion hopefuls Leicester City, winning 4-2 at Stamford Bridge in their quarterfinal. They will now face holders Manchester City in the semifinals after Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Newcastle United 2-0.
