Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk: Fury mocks Ukrainian’s earring in heated exchange — what was said in fiery leaked interview?

As we count down the days and weeks to the February 17 Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk title fight in Riyadh, one can expect “The Gypsy King” to ratchet up the mind games. In fact, Fury hasn’t been at a loss for words since the matchup was first suggested back in 2021.

In the ensuing years, the unbeaten Englishman has labelled Usyk a “rabbit” and a “light heavyweight”, essentially ridiculing the Ukrainian star’s lack of size. However, in leaked footage that was likely filmed several weeks ago, Fury has now targeted his opponent’s jewellery choice.

In a short clip from a fighter face-off conducted by boxing writer Steve Bunce, Fury took the opportunity to mock Usyk’s earring. It’s actually not the first time the Manchester man has taken this approach, as he also made mention of it at the press conference announcing the fight in November.

What did Tyson Fury say to Oleksandr Usyk in leaked interview?

While the clip only lasted a matter of seconds, the narrative was clear from the outset.

“A man who wears an earring in his ear can never beat Tyson Fury… ever,” said Fury, the WBC heavyweight champion. “Not a chance. No one who wears earrings can beat me.”

Following a sardonic smile, the super-skilled Ukrainian southpaw took his time to respond.

“I can explain about the earrings,” said Usyk in his native language. “It’s Ukrainian voyeur… Cossack. They were the people who defended my country from their enemies for many years.

“This is just the proof of my Cossack lineage. They never lose to anybody. There is no beauty or fashion in this.”

As one might expect, Fury, while listening intently to the translation, was unimpressed — despite understanding the significance of the jewellery.

“In Ukraine, it means he’s a good fighting man,” said Fury before reversing the compliment. “Where I’m from it means he’s a p—y with an earring in. That’s just the way I cut it.”

Usyk, who is not known for taking infringements lightly, looked off to the side and was far from pleased.

“No,” was the curt response from the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight champ.
