Lev Shevtsov takes third place at the OCEANMAN Open Water Swimming World Championship in Brazil

Thirteen-year-old Lev Shevtsov from Kyiv, Ukraine, managed to take third place at the OCEANMAN Open Water Swimming World Championship the ‘kids’ category in the 600-meter swim. The competition took place this spring in Salvador, Brazil.

The Ukrainian athlete was coached by his compatriot Dmitry Fedosenko.

According to the well-known Brazilian sports outlet Globo, even before the start of the competition, Lev Shevtsov was sure that he would show an excellent result and take a place on the podium, despite the fact that the climatic conditions and the temperature of open water in Brazil are significantly different from those in Ukraine.

Lev Shevtsov became one of four Ukrainians who took part in this competition. According to Brazilian journalists, a lot of Ukrainians took part in OCEANMAN in the past. However, as a result of the ongoing war in Ukraine, only a few athletes were able to come to Brazil this year.

After the competition and the awarding ceremony, Lev Shevtsov also noted that he wants to train even harder to participate in the subsequent OCEANMAN Championships in order to significantly improve his results and claim first place.

In Ukraine, Lev Shevtsov is also known for his success in the field of tennis. The athlete participated in numerous competitions for children and juniors while becoming the winner of many of them.

OCEANMAN is a unique international project that provides an opportunity to test your own strength, endurance, and courage.

For the first time, OCEANMAN Championship was held in 2015 in Spain. At that time, it included an open-water swimming competition, which immediately became popular among swimmers from all around the world.

This International Open Water Championship takes place in various countries: Indonesia, Cyprus, Thailand, Egypt, France, Brazil, Spain, Ukraine, and others.

There are several types of competing distances in OCEANMAN (in addition to single swims, there are also relay races) and they vary depending on the country of the event, but mostly these are distances of 10 km, 6 km, 2 km, as well as a separate distance for kids lasting from 500 m to 2 km.

OCEANMAN also aroused great interest among Ukrainian professional and amateur swimmers. Since 2018, Ukraine has been among the countries where the qualifying round for open water swimming is held.

Distances of 10 and 5 kilometers can be used to qualify for participation in the OCEANMAN World Championship.

In 2018, the First Open Water Swimming Championship OCEANMAN was held in Odesa, Ukraine. In September, 784 swimmers from 18 countries, including Germany, Israel, the USA, Denmark, Kazakhstan, and others gathered there to participate in the competitions.
