It was a big series to start, with the San Diego Padres moving a single game ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers atop the National League West. That got the attention of Dave Roberts and his defending World Series Champions.
After winning the first two games of the series by a combined score of 9-2, the Dodgers finished the three-game sweep with a 5-4 win on Sunday.
Freddie Freeman got the party started for the Dodgers with a three-run bomb in the first inning, scoring Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani. Andy Pages followed it up with a solo homerun to make it 4-0.
The Padres scored four runs, with a single run scattered in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, and another in the eighth inning.
Alexis Diaz hit the first batter of the eighth inning, then Ramon Laureano doubled to put two on with one out. Alex Vesia came in and got Jose Iglesias to ground out, but tied the game at 4. Freddy Fermin grounded out, and the game went bottom eighth.
That’s when Mookie Betts started with a lead-off blast to give the Dodgers the lead again.

That followed a start from Tyler Glasnow, where he went five innings, and allowed six hits. The loss for San Diego came from Yu Darvish, who allowed three hits and four runs over over four innings.
Los Angeles is now two games up in the standings, with a 71-53 record. The Dodgers are on the road for a four game series at Colorado, before these two teams meet up again next weekend, this time in San Diego. The Padres are now 69-55, and will start a four game series against the Giants on Monday.
