This is where the UEFA Champions League gets good. The knockout rounds of the 2022/23 competition are handing out the first verdicts with teams sent packing, and others moving on to the quarter finals.
Benfica, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan are already through to the final eight.
Tottenham and PSG failed in their bid to overturn first-leg losses, Club Brugge were pummeled by Benfica, and Borussia Dortmund saw their first-leg lead whither away at Chelsea’s London home.
The next four Round of 16 matches will see Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Napoli defending first-leg leads, while Manchester City and RB Leipzig have it all to play for in their second leg at the Etihad.

Champions League Round of 16 schedule
All Round of 16 matches are being played at 21:00 CET / 20:00 BST / 15:00 ET. There will be a slight shift in time for the USA when daylight savings begins in that country on March 12, two weeks ahead of Europe.
Note that if the first leg of a matchup was scheduled by UEFA to be played on a Tuesday, the second leg has been scheduled for a Wednesday, and vice-versa.
The eight group winners will have the benefit of playing the second leg at home, enjoying home-field advantage in the case that the series goes to extra time.

When is the UEFA Champions League quarter final draw?
Once we have the final eight teams left standing after the Round of 16, the Champions League quarter final draw will take place on Friday, March 17, 2023.
That day, the draw will also take place for the semifinals so that every club will know its path to the title.
It’s worth noting that beginning with the quarter final draw, country restrictions disappear and any team can be drawn against any other, including those from the same nation.
Six of the eight quarterfinalists from last season’s edition have a chance to reach the final-eight stage for a second season in a row: Bayern Munich, Benfica, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid

Champions League schedule for knockout rounds
With a mid-season men’s FIFA World Cup tournament and the resulting scheduling congestion, the remainder of the 2023 Champions League knockout schedule will stretch out until June.
The current schedule contemplates one round of knockout matches every month between April and June to take us from the quarterfinals to the final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
- Quarterfinals: April 11/12 (1st Leg), April 18/19 (2nd Leg)
- Semifinals: May 9/10 (1st Leg), May 16/17 (2nd Leg)
- Final: Saturday, June 10
No away goals in Champions League
The away goals tiebreaker which had been a feature of the tournament’s knockout rounds since 1965 was abolished for the 2021/22 edition with UEFA citing sporting justice among other reasons.
If teams are level on total goals scored after the conclusion of the second leg, then a 30-minute extra time period will be played with a penalty shootout used to determine a winner if the deadlock persists.
There were only two knockout round matchups that needed extra time in 2021/22 and both featured eventual champion Real Madrid.
The Spanish champions needed extra time to knock off English foes Chelsea (quarterfinals) and Manchester City (semifinals) before taking care of Liverpool in the final in regular time.
Who will win the 2023 Champions League? Latest odds
Manchester City are the betting favorites, with Bayern Munich right behind them. It seems like the market believes those two teams are far and away the two best sides in the competition.
The odds for PSG and Liverpool are a reflection of poor first leg results, with defending champions Real Madrid boosted by their 5-2 first-leg win at Anfield, coming in at third favourites.
