Chelsea vs. Man City live score, updates, highlights and lineups from Premier League match

Manchester City will look to close the gap to Premier League leaders Arsenal when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners’ 0-0 draw with Newcastle United means reigning champions City can move to within five points of the top if they can defeat the Blues on Thursday.

Graham Potter’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest last time out and, given they are 10 points outside the top four (albeit with a game in hand), they can ill afford to drop any more points this early in 2023.

Chelsea vs. Man City live updates, highlights

2 hrs before KO: Manchester City can close the gap to Premier League leaders Arsenal to five points with a win tonight. Standing in their way are Chelsea, desperate to find some consistency under head coach Graham Potter.

Chelsea vs. Man City lineups

Chelsea produced another fitful display in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, with Potter again shuffling his pack in the face of an imposing injury list.

Raheem Sterling scored his fourth of the season and is likely to retain his starting place against his former club. Potter could opt to play Mason Mount in the front three and bolster his midfield with Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher.

Predicted Chelsea XI (4-3-3): Kepa (GK) — Azpilicueta, Koulibaly, Silva, Cucurella — Kovacic, Jorginho, Gallagher — Sterling, Havertz, Mount

For City’s three games in the immediate post-World Cup period across the Carabao Cup and Premier League, Pep Guardiola opted for a relatively settled line-up.

Joao Cancelo, Aymeric Laporte, Kyle Walker and Phil Foden are all yet to start a Premier League game since their exertions in Qatar and it might be time for them to feature as a packed schedule mounts up.

Predicted Man City XI (4-3-3): Ederson (GK) — Walker, Stones, Laporte, Cancelo — De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan — Silva, Haaland, Foden

Chelsea vs. Man City betting odds, prediction

City won each of the past two encounters at Stamford Bridge, swaggering to a 3-1 triumph in January 2021 to hasten Frank Lampard’s demise before a deserved 1-0 victory in September that year to serve as a measure of revenge for Chelsea’s win by the same scoreline in the 2021 Champions League final.

The west Londoners will hope to pick at any remaining scars from that Porto reverse, especially with City not being at the top of their game. Potter was keen to point out that City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega was named player of the match when his side were beaten 2-0 in the Carabao Cup last month — a third consecutive victory and clean sheet in the fixture for Guardiola.

Prediction: City to win 2-0
