The light heavyweight division will take the spotlight when former world champion Gilberto Ramirez takes on perennial contender Gabriel Rosado on March 18. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, takes place at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California, and will air on DAZN.
At just 31, Ramirez has an impressive resume. “Zurdo” turned pro in 2009 and won the WBO super middleweight title in 2016, defending the belt five times. In his most recent outing, last November, the Mexican star faced WBA light heavyweight champ Dmitry Bivol but lost in a one-sided affair.
Looking to rebuild, Ramirez sees Rosado as the perfect dance partner.
“He is a tough opponent who is always ready to fight,” Ramirez said via Boxing Scene. “He has been in the ring with the best and can be dangerous at any time of the fight. And to have it be a Mexico versus Puerto Rico matchup is just a cherry on top to make this an exciting fight for fans.
“I’m more motivated than ever to get back on track and show why I’m still one of the best in the game.”

Rosado’s career has gone through a unique and painful path as of late. Winning several regional belts, Rosado lost to Gennadiy Golovkin and Peter Quillin for middleweight gold in 2013. Including the Golovkin loss, he has gone 5-11-1 with one no-contest in his last 17 fights, and he is currently on a three-fight losing streak. However, there is no denying his fighting heart. Rosado has fought across multiple weight divisions against the very best in boxing.
Ramirez has 30 wins via knockout. Rosado, 37, has only been knocked out four times, his last TKO loss came in 2014 against David Lemieux. Hungry for a victory, Rosado is not worried about Ramirez’s knockout power but finishing the fight with his hand raised.
“I’ve worked with big guys all the time,” Rosado said to DAZN via Boxing Scene. “There’s middleweights that punch harder than light heavyweights. I’m sure I’ve fought plenty of middleweights that punched harder than light heavyweights.”
