Inside the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., Gervonta Davis returns home. “Tank” defends the WBA (Regular) lightweight title against Hector Luis Garcia on Jan. 7.
Davis, born in Baltimore, made his pro debut in Washington. He last fought in Washington in 2016, beating Guillermo Avila via TKO. This will be his fifth time fighting in the area.

My opponent is an Olympian and a world champion who’s proven to the boxing world that he is a tremendous competitor. Davis last fought in May, beating Rolando Romero via TKO, his 25th win via some form of knockout. With a win, he is hoping to face rival Ryan Garcia sometime in April.

Making his pro debut in 2016, Garcia beat Chris Colbert in February via unanimous decision. That ended the young prospect’s undefeated streak. In August, Garcia beat Roger Gutierrez via unanimous decision to win the WBA super-featherweight title.
“This is going to elevate my game and ultimately, it’s going to give the fans an all-time classic that they won’t forget,” Garcia stated. “On January 7, Gervonta Davis and I are going to produce a war that is going to go down as one of the great fights in history and will solidify my name with the greats.”
