Mariners’ Bryan Woo sets new MLB record for historic consistency

Bryan Woo is officially atop a historic MLB record board for consistency.

It’s a remarkable place for the Seattle Mariners’ young right-handed pitcher to be, but he certainly had to earn it.

Woo has officially gone six or more innings with two or fewer walks in all 24 of his starts this season. That’s the longest streak to begin a season in the history of Major League Baseball, per the Mariners’ PR team.

It’s not flashy, but that’s not who Woo is.

Woo is reliability at its finest.

To set this mark, he had to break a tie with Hall of Famer Juan Marichal.

He has already gone by a legend in Clayton Kershaw earlier in this streak. It’s epic company Woo is keeping.

At 25 years old, Woo is special.

He hinted at this last season, when he had a 2.89 ERA in 22 starts.

But he’s already thrown more innings and made more starts this season. With young pitchers, that’s often a concern for teams. But with the way Woo has consistently limited his stressful moments, it’s less of a concern here.

The Mariners need this kind of reliability in their quest to make the postseason and make noise when they get there.

Woo is wonderful, and Mariners fans know it. The rest of baseball will start to know it, too.
