‘Just a microdose of mushrooms’ — Singer Michael Buble draws laughs after NHL All-Star Game draft

The NHL’s All-Star Game draft featured plenty of hockey talent, a handful of Canadian celebrities, and a few awkward moments — arguably none were more awkward than Michael Buble’s post-draft press conference.

Sitting next to actor Will Arnett, Buble turned a question about fantasy hockey into a tell-all about the “mushrooms” he may or may not have taken before the event.

“My buddy told me this was just a microdose of mushrooms… and he was lying,” Buble said to a room filled with nervous laughter. “So, I’ll be honest, I thought I was in Blades of Glory for most of the time that I was out there until it sort of settled down, and then I realized, ‘Holy s—, I’m at the NHL All-Star Game.'”

Arnett was the right person to make sure the room didn’t get even more awkward, chiming in to joke that Buble lost himself “a lot of income” with his mushroom comments.

Buble was one of four Canadian stars on hand to serve as a celebrity captain for the All-Star draft, making the picks alongside Canucks standouts Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson. He was joined by singers Justin Bieber and Tate McRae, plus Arnett.

Buble’s comments might explain why he seemed to drift away from Team Hughes after the teams were selected.

So, does this mean Team Hughes was drafted under the influence? If so, Buble’s mushrooms helped fill out a roster that features Nikita Kucherov, Elias Pettersson, Brady Tkachuk, and Kyle Connor. If it wins on All-Star weekend, perhaps Buble unlocked the secret to drafting the right team.
