USA vs. Germany live score, highlights, updates from 2023 World Juniors quarterfinal

The quarterfinals of the 2023 World Juniors begin today, and the United States draws a matchup against Germany.

The USA finished first in Group B with nine points, the second consecutive tournament that the country earned the top spot in its group. The Americans won three out of their four group play games, finishing with nine points in the standings.

Leading the way for the Americans have been 2022 first-rounders Jimmy Snuggerud and Logan Cooley. The two top-line forwards are tied for the team lead in points with seven apiece.

Germany earned a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Latvia in its final preliminary round match. It was the country’s only victory in Group A play, as the Germans finished as the No. 4 seed.

“We’re gonna have a strong competition with Germany,” Snuggerud said. “We can’t take them lightly. We kind of took Slovakia a little lighter than we should. Coming into this game, we have to take them on and know that they’re gonna give us their best because they want to win too.”

It’s an opportunity for the Americans to avenge their loss from the 2022 tournament. Czechia stunned the United States by handing the team a loss in the quarterfinals, knocking out the 2021 champs before they could play for a medal.
