Bruins record tracker: Boston on pace to break NHL records for most points, wins by a team in a season

The Bruins are what the kids today are calling an absolute wagon.

No team has dominated the 2022-23 season like Boston has. David Pastrnak should be getting consideration for the Hart Trophy this year, as he also chases Connor McDavid in the goals race for the Rocket Richard.

Linus Ullmark has a stranglehold on the Vezina Trophy, leading the league in goals-against average, save percentage and wins. And Jim Montgomery is the frontrunner for the Jack Adams Award for coach of the year, turning the Bruins into a powerhouse in only his first year with the club.

The Bruins are on pace to set new NHL records for most wins and most points by a team in a single season. They have already become the fastest team to 100 points in league history and are on their way to becoming the quickest team to secure 50 wins in a year as well.

Of course, if you ask any of the members of the organization, they couldn’t care less about anything that’s not called the Stanley Cup.

“People have talked a lot about some of these records, that we could potentially hit or we have hit,” Brad Marchand said in a recent interview with ESPN. “Nobody cares about those in this room. We could care less about any of these regular-season records. Because they really don’t mean anything.”

The players may not care about trivial records for the regular season.

Which team holds the record for most points in an NHL season?

Speaking of the 1976-77 Montreal team, that is the club that owns the record for most points by a team in a single season with 132.

Only one other team has hit 130 points in a season: the 1995-96 Red Wings. That loaded squad came one point shy of tying the Canadiens’ record, ending the campaign with 131.
