Less than six hours from the MLB trade deadline, the Cleveland Guardians have made two moves so far in their anticipated sale. They’ve shipped off Shane Bieber to the Toronto Blue Jays and Paul Seawald to the Detroit Tigers.
But their top trade chip, left fielder Steven Kwan, hasn’t gone anywhere. However, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Guardians’ chances of trading Kwan are “increasingly likely.”
“A Steven Kwan trade is viewed as increasingly likely, sources said,” Morosi reports.

Of the players who could be on the move at the trade deadline, Kwan is likely the top option left. Mason Miller went for a massive haul, including top San Diego Padres prospect Leo De Vries, ranked 3rd in baseball.
Cleveland asked for De Vries and more for Kwan in a potential trade, signifying their demands are very high for Kwan. But, even with their trade demands being so high, Morosi reports that Kwan’s chances of being moved are increasingly likely.
Kwan is a 27-year-old outfielder who just played in his second All-Star game. He’s been impressive during his four years in Cleveland, earning three straight Gold Gloves from 2022 to 2024.

He could be on his way to a fourth in 2025, as he’s one of the best defensive left fielders in baseball once again. Kwan is also a solid hitter, hitting .286 on the season with a .758 OPS and a 109 OPS+ through 102 games.
Part of what makes Kwan so special offensively is his ability to limit strikeouts. He has the sixth-fewest strikeouts in baseball, with 38 on the year. He’d be a huge boost to any offense, and the Guardians are demanding a high price for him.
Morosi’s report, that the chances of Kwan being dealt are increasing, and the Guardians could be on the cusp of landing a massive return for one of the top trade candidates at the 2025 deadline.
