Heavyweight world title contender Dillian Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs) has just announced his next fight at Portman Road, Ipswich on Saturday, June 7, live on DAZN.
The 37-year-old heavyweight will appear on the undercard of Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni, who clash for the vacant WBO Interim world heavyweight title at Wardley’s beloved Ipswich Town FC stadium on a Queensberry Promotions event.
His addition to the already stacked card is all that’s been confirmed so far, with details of his opponent and length of rounds yet to be revealed. His last two bouts were both 10-rounders, winning against Christian Hammer in March 2024, then against Ebenezer Tetteh in December.
Whyte stopped Hammer in three, then Tetteh in seven. He was due to face Joe Joyce in April this year, but was forced to withdraw through injury.
These victories followed on from a lengthy legal battle after adverse drugs findings for his proposed rematch with Anthony Joshua, which the 37-year-old was eventually cleared of. The layoff meant that he didn’t fight at all during 2023.
The Jamaican-born boxer has lost three professional fights – to Anthony Joshua in 2015; Alexander Povetkin in 2020; Tyson Fury in 2022. All three defeats came via knockout, in rounds five, six, and seven.
Whyte has dropped out of all the top 15 world rankings, so he will be looking for a significant name to claw his way back up to the top.
There is a fantastic British and Commonwealth super-welterweight showdown between rivals “Magic Man” Sam Gilley and “Medway Mauler” Louis Greene on the undercard.
Also on the bumper bill, Pierce O’Leary battles Liam Dillon for the vacant European super-lightweight title; Mike Perez and Steven Ward clash over 10-rounds at cruiserweight; plus Umar Khan; Lewis Richardson; Lillie Winch; Billy Adams; Jack Williams; Keano White; Christian Bozzia are all in action.
