Dallas considered trading star player to make room for Mitch Marner

The future of Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson has been a topic of vast discourse this offseason as he enters the final season of his current deal with the club. The star player has been featured in trade talks regularly this summer as his long term fit in Dallas is questionable. It appears at least for the short term the Stars will be sticking with “JRob” for the final year of his contract, beyond that remains to be seen as extension talks have not been had yet.

The 26 year old forward recorded 35 goals and 45 assists for 80 points in 82 games for Dallas in the regular season last year. In the playoffs, he struggled with only 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points in 11 games.

The 6 year vet has amassed 168 goals and 226 assists for 394 points in 374 career regular season games, all with the Stars. In his postseason career, he has totaled 18 goals and 26 assists for 44 points in 56 games.

What is the offseason rundown on Jason Robertson?

Via Sean Shapiro, the Dallas Stars had considered trading Jason Robertson this summer to make way for a bigger future deal. The move in question that was a thought for Dallas was going after Mitch Marner. The former Leafs stud’s services were won by the Vegas Golden Knights with the Stars being one of many teams that were also in on the forward. In order to make room for Marner on their cap books, Dallas would have had to move a player like Robertson.

While this trade never happened, the fact is all this trade talk information surrounding the Stars’ Robertson is out there. This will not quell the gas being added to the flames regarding Jason’s tenure in Dallas potentially approaching an end. We’ll see what happens on this front in the near future.
