The Bills of recent vintage have made a habit of moving on from running backs before it gets too late.
They replaced LeSean McCoy with Devin Singletary. Then they drafted James Cook to replace Singletary.
Now, it could be Cook’s turn.
Cook is pretty much the only Bills star eligible for an extension this offseason who hasn’t gotten one.
Earlier in the offseason, he proclaimed he wanted a $15 million per year deal. Apparently, the Bills weren’t all that interested in that price.
Pro Football Network’s Sterling Xie sees the possibility of Buffalo trading Cook to either the Giants or Cowboys.

New York would be a super logical destination, given the Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen presence. Both left Buffalo the year Cook was drafted, and it’d be a bit of a reunion of sorts.
The Cowboys have Ken Dorsey as an assistant coach, and he used to be the Bills’ offensive coordinator (although he didn’t let Cook cook as much as many Buffalo fans would’ve liked).
Both teams could use upgrades in the backfield. New York’s Tyrone Tracy is solid, so maybe it’s not a necessity there, but the Cowboys are currently planning to rely on some mix of Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, two veterans who have proven they aren’t made to be a top RB.
For Buffalo, the replacement for Cook looks to already be on the roster.
Ray Davis was dynamic as a rookie, and given the continued presence of third-down back Ty Johnson, Cook could be surplus to proceedings.
The Bills would likely want a solid draft pick in return. And with it, they just might try to start the running back cycle all over again. It’s worked well for them to this point.
