Bayern Munich are desperately looking for attacking reinforcements this summer after getting rejected by some of their targets.
Following Jamal Musiala’s severe injury against PSG in the Club World Cup quarterfinals, the Bavarians have stepped up their interest in a past target.
According to The Times, the German champions have identified Chelsea’s wantaway star Christopher Nkunku. He could be the player to step up in Musiala’s absence.
Bayern Munich were interested in the Frenchman in the January transfer window, and despite a lot of rumours, the deal never materialised.
The Bavarians have missed out on their primary targets in Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams, therefore they are now back in for the 27-year-old.
During the Premier League campaign, Nkunku was seen as surplus to requirements by manager Enzo Maresca.

The Frenchman has resurrected his position in the Club World Cup. He has started three out of six games and featured in five games in total.
He also scored a crucial goal against Benfica in the round of 16 fixture, guiding the Blues to a 4-1 win in extra time.
Manchester United set to rival Bayern Munich for French forward
Nkunku moved to Chelsea in 2023 from RB Leipzig after the Blues triggered his release clause of £52m ($71m).
The Frenchman was coming off a great tenure in the Bundesliga, and Chelsea fans had great expectations from him.
However, he never really managed to leave a strong impact on the Chelsea fans due to his incessant injury problems and inconsistent form.
The 2024/25 campaign has allowed him to prove his mettle, albeit the limited opportunities, he has featured in 47 matches and netted 15 goals.
Despite his slight resurrection, Chelsea are open to selling Nkunku for £35m ($47.6m) to cut their losses.
Bayern have identified Nkunku as a player who is versatile and has flourished in the Bundesliga previously.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the Bavarians are still in an exploratory stage as they have not made any advances for the 27-year-old.
Apart from Bayern Munich, Manchester United have also shown interest in Nkunku. But for now, none of the clubs have reportedly made a move for him.
