The World Baseball Classic is in full swing, with every team having played at least one game. Team USA will play its third game of the tournament Monday night against Canada.
After losing 11-5 to Mexico on Sunday night, this has become a crucial game for the Americans (1-1) as try to make it into the quarterfinals. They’re looking to put on a better showing than they managed against the Mexicans and Pool C cellar-dweller Great Britain.
White Sox right-hander Lance Lynn is slated to start for the U.S. against Canada. Minor league left-hander Mitch Bratt is expected to get the nod for the Canadians. Bratt is a 19-year-old who pitched in Single-A in 2022. The Rangers prospect was a fifth-round pick in 2021 and is ranked the No. 17 prospect in Texas’ system by MLB.com.
Canada’s lineup is headlined by Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman and Cardinals outfielder Tyler O’Neill. Team USA will not have to contend with Canada’s ace, Cal Quantrill, who started the team’s opening game against Great Britain on Sunday.
