Alexander Isak had recently completed his switch to Liverpool following a British record £125 million move from Newcastle United — but the story of how he got there may not be as simple as it looks.
The Swedish striker made his first appearance since May when he came off the bench against Kosovo in a World Cup qualifier.
The transfer was one of the summer’s biggest sagas. Isak spent much of preseason away from Newcastle’s squad, carrying an injury and later training separately while pushing for the move.
That absence sparked frustration among Newcastle fans, who accused him of forcing his way out. After weeks of speculation, the switch to Anfield was sealed on deadline day.
Speaking after Sweden’s 2-0 defeat in Pristina, Isak hinted there is more to the story than what has been reported. “It is what it is. Not everyone has the full picture, but that’s a discussion for another day,” he told Fotbollskanalen.

What Alexander Isak said?
Isak did not shy away from the criticism he faced during the transfer. “It’s part of the sport,” he admitted. “There’s a lot that I can’t control. I’m glad that things are over and that I can focus on my club.”
The forward insisted he is happy with the outcome. “I am happy to be a Liverpool player and that is what I wanted,” he added.
For now, Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson is handling him carefully. The coach gave him only 18 minutes against Kosovo, stressing the importance of building fitness after a disrupted summer.
Still, Isak showed flashes of his quality, creating chances and reminding everyone why Liverpool were willing to break the bank.
The 25-year-old will now join up with his new teammates at Anfield. Liverpool sit top of the Premier League and look ready to add Isak’s finishing touch to an already powerful attack.
Supporters will be eager to see him in action, but his comments suggest one thing: the real story of his transfer may yet be told another day.
