In these final weeks of the offseason, one team still with a lot of decisions to make is the Golden State Warriors. As they look to fill out their roster ahead of the 2026 season, one international standout was floated as a potential target.
It’s been a drama-filled summer for the Warriors as they attempt to build out around their star duo of Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler. The front office remains unable to make any signings due to one major roadblock. That being forward Jonathan Kuminga. He remains an unsigned restricted free agent, leaving numerous players in limbo as they attempt to sign a deal with Golden State.
Still with plenty of spots to fill ahead of opening night, one writer made the case for Golden State to put a new name on their radar.
Isaac Bonga cited as viable target for Warriors
Over the weekend, Germany took down Turkey to secure the gold medal in the EuroBasket tournament. Among the players on the roster with some NBA experience was guard Isaac Bonga.
Bonga, a former second-round pick, bounced around the NBA for the better part of four years. He is most known for this time with the Washington Wizards, but also had stints with the LA Lakers and Toronto Raptors.
Over the past few years, Bonga has been continuing his pro career overseas. He’s made notable improvements to his game, which helped him be a key contributor for Germany in EuroBasket.
Coming off his 20-point performance in the gold medal game against Turkey, Liam Willerup of Sports Illustrated tossed out the idea of Bonga being a free-agent target for the Warriors. He cited the two-way wing could potentially have a similar resurgence in the NBA that Guerschon Yabusele had for the Philadelphia 76ers last year.
Averaging over a steal per game and shooting 45% from beyond the arc, Bonga showed complementary skills the Warriors need. However, until the Kuminga situation is resolved, it’s unlikely Golden State goes searching for hidden gems on the open market.
