Matt Fitzpatrick has become one of the bigger names in golf, largely thanks to his U.S. Open victory in 2022.
Fitzpatrick has now been a professional golfer for over a decade, and he’s been a consistent presence in majors in that span. The Englishman has two career wins, one for the PGA Tour and one in the majors, while becoming one of the premier English golfers in the world.
However, while most English golfers spend a lot of time on the DP World Tour, Fitzpatrick spends most of his time on the PGA Tour. Still, the veteran golfer represents his hometown well even if he is mainly playing in the United States.
Here’s what you need to know about Fitzpatrick’s hometown.

In fact, Bramall Lane was one of the first places he visited with the U.S. Open trophy after winning the event in 2022.
“Great to be back home in Sheffield and visit the Lane with the US Open trophy today!” he wrote on Instagram. “Made even better with 3 points for Dem Blades.”
While Fitzpatrick currently spends some of his time in Jupiter, Fla., training and practicing, he still goes back home a decent amount. However, he plays most of his golf on the PGA Tour, not the DP World Tour, which requires him to spend most of the year in America.

Matt Fitzpatrick college
In 2013, Fitzpatrick attended Northwestern, where he was expected to spend the next four years. However, after just one quarter, Fitzpatrick left the school to turn professional, playing in just five total collegiate tournaments.
“I left Northwestern because I felt I had more than a few opportunities that I simply couldn’t turn down and may not have again. I was able to play in some PGA tour events on sponsor’s exemptions, and I played in the Masters in April,” Fitzpatrick said after he left, via InsideNU. “I wanted my game to be in tip-top shape for the Masters, as I’m sure all of you can understand. I was also able to make the cut in the United States Open, which was a thrill. All in all, I weighed the pros and cons of being in school, and I felt as though the best use of my time was focusing on my future.”
Fitzpatrick acknowledged that focusing full-time on golf was the right thing for his career.
“Leaving school allowed me to practice golf full time. It effectively became my job- I wasn’t getting paid, as I was still an amateur, but I was a full-time amateur,” he said. “My days consisted of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the afternoon at the golf club, where I would practice each and every aspect of my game. I wasn’t able to do that at Northwestern with a full load of classes and homework.”
